Although lenvatinib is approved for patients with metastatic or reoccurring hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the clinical results of lenvatinib treatment for HCC recurrence after liver transplantation (LT) are not yet established. A study investigated the benefits and risks of lenvatinib treatment for patients with liver transplant-related hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence.
Across six institutions in Korea, Italy, and Hong Kong, a retrospective, multicenter, multinational study investigated 45 patients with recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) following liver transplantation (LT) who received lenvatinib treatment between June 2017 and October 2021.
During the commencement of lenvatinib therapy, 956% (n=43) of patients were found to possess Child-Pugh A status, with 35 (778%) individuals classified as ALBI grade 1 and 10 (222%) individuals categorized as ALBI grade 2, respectively. A remarkable 200% objective response rate was observed. The median duration of follow-up was 129 months (95% confidence interval [CI] 112-147 months). The median progression-free survival time was 76 months (95% CI 53-98 months), while the median overall survival was 145 months (95% CI 8-282 months). Patients graded ALBI 1 had substantially longer overall survival (OS), 523 months (95% confidence interval not assessable), in contrast to patients graded ALBI 2, whose OS was 111 months (95% confidence interval 00-304 months), p=0.0003. Hypertension (n=25, 556%), fatigue (n=17, 378%), and anorexia (n=14, 311%) were the most frequently reported adverse events.

A review of 142,637 non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) patients, diagnosed between 1975 and 2016 within the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program, was conducted to assess standardized incidence ratios (SIR, observed-to-expected [O/E] ratio). The endemic populations served as benchmarks for evaluating subgroup SIRs.
Among the patient population, 15,979 cases of SM were documented, an occurrence greater than the endemic rate (O/E 129; p<0.005). Compared to white patients, and relative to their respective endemic groups, ethnic minorities exhibited a greater risk of SM. The observed-to-expected ratios (O/E) were 127 (95% confidence interval [CI] 125-129) for white patients, 140 (95% CI 131-148) for black patients, and 159 (95% CI 149-170) for other ethnic minority groups. In comparison to their respective endemic counterparts, patients undergoing radiotherapy exhibited comparable SM rates to those not receiving the treatment (observed/expected 129 each), yet irradiated patients displayed a heightened incidence of breast cancer (p<0.005). Significant differences in rates of serious medical events (SM) were found between chemotherapy-treated patients and those who did not receive chemotherapy (O/E 133 vs. 124, p<0.005). This study, distinguished by its extended follow-up period, represents the most comprehensive examination of SM risk in NHL patients to date. Nevertheless, particular sub-sites exhibited an elevated likelihood of SM, differing according to treatment, age bracket, racial background, and duration post-treatment. Of all studies on SM risk in NHL patients, this one has the longest duration of follow-up and the largest scope. Seeking novel biomarkers for castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), we analyzed the proteins secreted into the culture media of new castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) cell lines, derived from the LNCaP cell line, using these as a CRPC model system. The results clearly demonstrated that secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI) levels in these cell lines were 47 to 67 times higher than those secreted by the parental LNCaP cells. Individuals diagnosed with localized prostate cancer (PC) who showed evidence of secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI) experienced a significantly lower prostate-specific antigen (PSA) progression-free survival rate in contrast to those without this expression.
